Before the Real Circus Begins..

Let me first say, I realize that this post is a long time coming. Considering we've known we're having a little lady for 2 months now, I'd say it's high time I show you how we announced that news!

I have long loved the idea of a gender reveal party. I know some people think they're strange, and maybe they are, but I just love it! Because we don't live near any family, we love finding excuses to get together with folks and party when we go home...and a gender reveal party seemed like the perfect way to celebrate our little girl on the way!

I had done plenty of research {thank you iPhone and a 6 hour trip from Chicago...} on gender reveal parties and gathered several great ideas. We knew we wanted to make it a bit different and more personalized though, so instead of the normal pink and blue party and cake reveal, we opted for a circus themed shindig. I couldn't have been happier with the results!

Without further ado, here's the recap...

Erin, from Custom Creations by Erin (remember her?) designed our entire party package, starting with the invitations.

I loved being able to piece together all of the fun details...from the handmade banner to the cotton candy party favors.

We made a makeshift "big top" in my parents' living room and hung lanterns over the food table. When people arrived, they were asked to cast their vote by placing a ticket on the poster board. They also each wrote a note Baby Smith. I love that she'll always have those precious notes from dear friends and family.

We asked everyone to wear red if they thought it was a girl and blue if they thought it was a boy. I was able to grab individual shots of most everyone there, but I'm kicking myself for not getting "team" shots! As you can see, the votes were pretty even...

We all headed outside to play a super fun "taking care of baby" relay. I now know who NOT to call when I need a babysitter. :)

Finally, it was time for the big reveal! Instead of the traditional reveal through cake, we let the great-grandmas open a gift that would announce the gender. I love seeing their faces change as they opened red bag, blue bag, red bag, blue bag, polka dots...what?!? These photos are priceless to me. (I just wish I had gotten everyone's reaction on video. SO great).

It's a girl!!

We are thrilled and cannot wait to meet Miss Adelyn Maelie Smith in February!

  1. Oh man that is an AWESOME way to announce the gender of your baby! I'm totally going to have to steal your idea when I get pregnant. ;)

  2. What a fun idea. Ever since it has been available to know the sex of the baby before it is born, I have missed the thrill of finding out the gender at birth. This is a great alternative.

  3. What a fun party it was, very exciting and of course this great grandmaw was really thrilled to be a part of the revealing of the gender. When I held the little pink shoes I wanted to laugh, cry, and give a big shout. I thank God for this blessing that is to arrive in Feb. So anyone who is expecting should try this everyone gets to be in on the fun. Love maw-maw.

  4. Congratulations on your new baby girl. This will be an incredibly exciting time for you and for your family.
